Photo 1 is as purchased in December
1969. Photos 2 and 3 are from the autocross days in the 1970's
and photo 4 is a more recent photo along with my wife's Elan.
According to John Watson my car
left the works on January 26, 1961. I purchased the car from
Charles Hansen in Tenafly New Jersey in December of 1969. He
raced the car in SCCA class F Production. When I purchased the
car it was in somewhat used but driveable condition. I rebuilt
the engine changing the cam to a milder BMC performance cam and
changed the carburetors to smaller 1 1/4 SUs. The fiberglass
parts were repaired and strengthened by laying on woven fiberglass
to the inside of the wings and nose. The whole car, aluminum
and fiberglass, was painted
blue. I also replaced most of the wiring. This work was completed
in the spring of 1970. During the 1970's the car was autocrossed
locally with some success. I also took the car to the local drag
strip where is ran the quarter mile in 17.02 seconds at 72 mph
and the car weight was 935 pounds.
For the last 30 years the car
has been driven during the fair weather of summer. The car has
been licensed, insured, and driven every year that I have owned
it. In addition to he Seven we also have a 1965 Lotus Elan S2
that my father-in-law purchased new. Our kids grew up riding
the 50 miles to the Mid-Ohio race track to spectate at the vintage
sports car races.
