Series 2 SB1420
a Grand Prix Imported Cars Seven

California

Report as of January 2005:

It's together and running, well I might add. The rear fenders you will see are aluminum ones I made as a temporary solution until I can get a set from Redline this spring.

I moved in Aug from California to Wyoming. Only down side is I went from 12 months of being able to drive the 7 to about 5 months. Similar to Michigan I would guess!

Summer 2004

It's coming along nicely. Paint will be finished in a week or so and putting together except for the engine after that. I figure the engine will take a couple of months.

The other photo shows the old back end when it had the VW bus taillights. At least the new one will have Wingards on the fenders.

The 7, according to JWW, had a 1340 engine with dual Webers. I think that was the America version but not sure. When I got it in 1978, it had a 997cc Ford. Currently replaced with a 1500cc Ford. Just got some Dellorto carbs off ebay to go with the 1500.

It is currently going through a complete frame up redo. New skin, some frame tubes, etc. Should be painted by Christmas and on the road by May of 2002. When I got it, it was in really bad shape and for the past 20 years, I was in a bandaid mode for repairs. Finally took the plunge to do things right. I'm having to replace things like the wiring harness (charred and broken sections of wire) and the instruments were a joke. The tailights were from a VW bus when I got it. Forget finding Wingards but I got a nice set of Lucas 539s from ebay. Not correct but a least they look good and there're British. [Yup!]

JWW had told me 1420 was imported by Weathermatic and it wasn't until I saw your site that I made the connection to Sy.

My biggest curiosity is what happened to the car between 1962 and 1978 when I bought it. It
had definitely been crashed at least once. Frame tube repairs are readily visible and one of the steering rod ends was bent big time. One of the lower A arms was brazed and the other welded.
