1968 Series 3 SB2333 Twincam

What a machine!

Built in 68, it's had a twincam fitted since, supposed to be around 150bhp, reported 0- 60 in 5.5 secs. I had it up to 100 on the way back from collecting it. Much more stable with cycle wings, my first one used to get very light at the front with flared.

Details:
RHD, S3, No: SB2333 1600 (QUOTED) LOTUS TWINCAM with 2x WEBER 40 DCOE STANDARD Gearbox and Axle, ratio UNKNOWN (4.11 PER BUILD CARD)

As promised, here are some pictures of my first 7, a s2.

I was only interested in driving the car in those days, not in any of the paperwork or any of the non-standard features so details are a bit sketchy.

However, it was built in 1962, had a 997cc Ford 105E engine with twin SUs, live axle. Had been lowered by about 1.5 inches at the front, presumably having been racing at some time. Had a header tank, mounted on the bulkhead where the battery usually goes, for extra cooling and fed by two copper tubes running the length of the engine bay.

I bought it from a dealer in a farmyard just north of Midhurst in Sussex, UK in 1969 for GBP400 and sold it to Caterham Car Sales in 1971 when they were the 7 main dealer for GBP300. It was painted yellow (except for the headlamps which were black) and I painted the wheels green and a green stripe around the nose. The rectangular picture you may see just to the rear of the nose was part of a Gold Leaf Team Lotus promotion which included this sticky back poster and a t-shirt.
