Back in 1974 David Dixon, company
secretary for Steel Brothers in Christchurch , New Zealand convinced
his bosses there would be a market for the Series 4. Steel Brothers
are manufacturers of heavy truck trailers.

They got the chassis jigs &
body molds from Lotus, and 50 (I think) Big Valve engines. It
is rumoured that the licence agreement was for 50 cars, but they
eventually built about 98. The exact number is clouded in mystery...
Once the Big Valve engines were used up they got twin cam engines
from Ford Australia - they were used in Escort TCs at the time.
They put a Hart engine in one, and thought about doing a Toyota
TC engine version.

I owned the 14th one, SB 3014,
built back in early 1975. My present car, the one pictured here,
is chassis number SB 3077, so it doesn't have the Big Valve engine,
as can be seen from the photos.
About 60 of the New Zealand cars
have been traced by Harry Hawkins in Auckland.
Most of the NZ cars are still
in NZ. Mine is the only one in Western Australia, and a couple
now reside in the eastern states.
Can anyone shed further light
on the "Steel Brothers" version of the Series 4 Seven?
