<thesimms@mindspring.com> Greetings All, The name is Rich Simms living in a 'berb of Cleveland, Ohio, USA. I need a Winguard. I'm happily married with two wonderful kids ages 25 and 23. I have owned a Series II Super 7 for the last 32 years...the last 30 of which it has been undercover in our various garages...we move...baby moves. The SCCA wouldn't let me race it anymore in 1970 without cutting off the existing rollbar and welding on a 2" diameter [at the time] replacement. Absurd I told them...it attaches to 3/4" tubing...what is that going to accomplish?...they won...I lost...but I still refused to butcher the car and so she sat...and sat...and sat. I need a Winguard. Fast forward 30 years... My objective will be to renovate rather than restore. Baby will be a driven car, not a 100 point 'trailer queen.' With that in mind I still want to keep her within the original specifications and as true as possible to the concept. Any changes will be done for the sole purpose of extending reliability. Hummmm...if you can associate reliability and Lotus 7 in the same thought. I know with certainty that *my* '65 Super Seven [ex-factory Dec. '64] came with the front mounting bracket. I am not certain without looking at the chassis crossmember, but I think I recall it being brazed, not welded. I think I still have mine stashed in a box somewhere. Overall it was a pretty poor design since it would really provide almost no frontal protection AND when a plate was actually mounted it significantly reduces the flow of air to the radiator. This might not be an issue with a BMC engined car but certainly would be with a Cosworth 1340cc or 1500cc car. |
