No idea when the chassis might
have been imported. It was bare with a tin label attached by
wire.
This Seven started out as a Series
2 chassis from Arch Motors. It was stamped with the number SB
1307 and also had that number on a tin tag attached by wire.
It is believed the chassis was brought to Australia as a spare.
it was not The problem with Australia is that the major original
importer of Super 7s destroyed all his records when his business
closed with the demise of the Lotus 7, therefore verification
of these facts are difficult.
The car was commenced as a project
but failed twice. The third owner, Derry George (now deceased),
was a local eccentric race mechanic. He completed the project
and had the car registered as a 1964 Lotus Super 7. He also owned
a fully imported 7 with a Coventry engine.
He built HUD549 as a hill climb
and sprint car and decide to sell it to me after he crossed the
finishing line at the Rob Roy Hill climb in reverse.
The car is fitted with Vegantune
lotus 1600 Twin cam with a dry sump and two 45 DCOE 13 Webers.
The front suspension is apparently from America.
The car is painted in traditional
"Prisoner" colours. It goes like shit off a shovel
and can still hold its own at any hill climb or sprint. (Only
being let down by the average driving skills of the current owner)
I am about to do a major rebuild.
My current dilemma is whether to replace the car's unusual rear
panhard rod with the traditional trailing A-frame.
Being road registered means I
can drive to most meetings. That's called dedication!
