If the photo at left evokes an
emotion in you, multiply it by 10 and you'll know how I felt
driving one of Mike Ostrov's Elites at speed through the hills
of the San Fransisco Bay area. A wonderfully friendly host, Mike
provided an incredible experience to myself and several visitors
when we stopped by his shop in April of this year. Picture no
less than FOUR Elites winding their way through the hills with
an incredibly original S2 Seven thrown in for good measure! One
day, with time, I'll elaborate on the story--Thanks Mike!
SB ll22 (Seven America) is hanging
from the rafters (bottom photo.) Purchased many years ago from
some beautiful pictures taken on a lake in MO. PO took one last
drive and destroyed the engine/gearbox. Hence the hanging Seven
with some neck ties draped over the tyres to remind me of the
most expensive tie rack in the world.
SB l650 is a Seven America with l7K original miles (middle photos.)
I am the second owner. Nothing altered except some new tyres
and my old set of 8 spoke American Racing Mag wheels. All that
I was able to salvage after destroying my l340cc D production
Super Seven on a rainy July SCCA National event at Seattle (WA)
Raceway back a few (3.5 decades). No one told us (San Francisco
Bay Area Lads) about the water in the Northwest. Actually, it
has a replacement 9 spring competition pressure plate that was
needed last summer. I used to race H Production Sprites. So,
some familiarity with the 948 cc powerplant. Lovely car with
2l hp at the rear wheels. A Ballerina up to 78 mph. First owner
had it factory prepared to go F production SCCA racing. He never
did. CR smooth case gearbox, increased rate front and rear springs,
Brooklands windscreen, placed behind the original, a single hoop
roll over bar and a set of 4.5 inch steel wheels with 35 year
old 5.00 x l3 Goodyear Blue Streak tyres, now up on the shelf.
Still has the original drum front brakes. Only the later Ford
powered Sevens were fitted with the disks.
SB 2073: bottom photo, below
hanging Seven! PO used the frame number when registering the
Seven in California. I have the same factory build records that
John has, for only the Series II Sevens. It was re skinned and
full frame re enforcement. Fitted with a Stromberg Twin Cam and
a dry sump, 3.90 diff and all the DSK suspension modifications
available. Been off the road for a bit. I purchased it to replace
the engine with a l500 cc Ford and have another Vintage Race
car for my partner/driver to swap with the Super 95.
Cheers, Mike.
