SB 2190 Australia
May 2007:
My S2 Super Seven Cosworth 1500 (SB2190) has had a fair bit of racing lately including a meeting where I was pitted against a long tail Porsche Le Mans car which had a slight performance advantage!! he was passing me on the long straight at Philip Island at over 90 mph FASTER. Very dangerous and a bit nerve wracking.
Pic is of SB2190 at Oran Park circuit here in Sydney. Not a bad shot of a quite fast Seven. June 2005:
As you know I have the two S2 Elites and a 22 Junior! After talking recently to Mike Ostrov I was looking for a Seven, when, lo and behold out of the blue came a Seven S2 Cosworth. Chassis number is SB2190. Right here under my nose.
Original owner was a C. Bristow in the UK. I traded it in on my Brabham FB car from a local guy here in Sydney, John Bentley, who had imported it in 96 and raced it quite successfully for a number of years. It has all the weather equipment, original windscreen and wings but runs cycle guards and aero screen now. It is immaculate for a race car and has a strong 1500 Cosworth with steel crank, rods, forged pistons etc but a mild camshaft so it can be driven too and from race meetings. Diff is quafe limited slip and gearbox 4 speed ford cortina. adjustable shocks all round. Nice thing is the chassis is very original and not been messed around with.
I got a pile of useful spares with the car too.
It laps about the same times as my race Elite so there is a lot of scope to improve that with some driver development!!
Now all I need is a 23B and I have the complete race set as advertised in Road and track back in 1962!!!
Happy to be joining the Seven brigade at last.
Cheers,
Bruce Mansell
