My Lotus was first sold to a
certain Mr Tuck in 1959. The car was ordered with hood &
three zip tonneau. When it was new it had an 1172 cc Ford sidevalve
engine, Anglia three speed box & a Nash metropolitan rear
axle. It has lived through several shapes & forms since then
but in 1986 Jörgen Carlsson bought the car & restored
it to its former glory under the guidance of Olle Bergkvist.
I bought the car less engine
from Jörgen late -98 with the intention of using BMC´s
"A-series" engine. I still have a 998 cc engine with
Speedwell aluminium cylinder head. However I got hold of a strange
Climax engine called BFF. As far as I know the engine is normally
used in a NATO generator & it required A LOT of work (still
not completely finished) to get it in the car. I had to design
& fabricate:
- spiggot bearing
- ali flywheel
- adaptor plate between engine
& "A-series" gearbox
- extractor
- manifold for DCOE carburettor
- new bonnet to acomondate carb
- engine stays
- dynamo stay
- cooling system
- etc, etc, etc.....
The future plan is to find &
install a proper FWA/FWE/FWB Coventry Climax engine.
The search is on......
