1959 S1
Sweden

1959 photographed outside the RAF base on wich Mr Tuck worked.

1986 now fitted with Ford 116E & "modernized".

Present, fitted with
Climax BFF

My Lotus was first sold to a certain Mr Tuck in 1959. The car was ordered with hood & three zip tonneau. When it was new it had an 1172 cc Ford sidevalve engine, Anglia three speed box & a Nash metropolitan rear axle. It has lived through several shapes & forms since then but in 1986 Jörgen Carlsson bought the car & restored it to its former glory under the guidance of Olle Bergkvist.

I bought the car less engine from Jörgen late -98 with the intention of using BMC´s "A-series" engine. I still have a 998 cc engine with Speedwell aluminium cylinder head. However I got hold of a strange Climax engine called BFF. As far as I know the engine is normally used in a NATO generator & it required A LOT of work (still not completely finished) to get it in the car. I had to design & fabricate:

  • spiggot bearing
  • ali flywheel
  • adaptor plate between engine & "A-series" gearbox
  • extractor
  • manifold for DCOE carburettor
  • new bonnet to acomondate carb
  • engine stays
  • dynamo stay
  • cooling system
  • etc, etc, etc.....

The future plan is to find & install a proper FWA/FWE/FWB Coventry Climax engine.

The search is on......
