Nine. Seven Number 2!

Jack acquired his second Lotus Seven in the fall of 1998, from the original owner. SB1536 is a 1963 Series Two Ford Cosworth powered car. The car had been sitting for a number of years, however everything appeared to be original based on the numbers submitted to John Watson of the Lotus Seven Registry. SB1536 is now in the state of restoration.

As found - SB1536 and Jack Tripp!

Everything was taken apart, right down to the bare chassis. The Cosworth engine, transmission, rear axle and all suspension bits have been rebuilt and repainted. The chassis was stripped down, primed and repainted. As of Spring, 2002, the next step is to rivet the original skins back on the chassis, then repaint the original BRG which was discovered under three coats of paint.

There were two original hubcaps, which were re-chromed, and after much searching, a fellow in the U.K. was found who had a few on hand in his shop, which were obtained in excellent condition.

The original Wingard tailights had a crack in one of the lenses, so it was decided to replace them if a pair could be located. Gordon Morris in the U.K. came through with a great pair for a very reasonable cost.

The front disc brakes and the rear brakes have been reworked along with the steering assembly. The seats will be re-upholstered, the top redone, and the instruments recalibrated. The only missing items were the side curtains and the wood from the steering wheel. Locating a wheel at a reasonable price is proving to be a challenge.

"This is my first attempt at a total restoration. I am learning a great deal from people who are very knowledgeable and from all the books which are available. I appreciate all the information people have sent me and the advice given from the people whom I've met at Lotus meets and vintage racing events."

Jack's interest in Motorsports is unwavering. He continues to attend as many racing events as possible, especially at Daytona and Sebring. He's a member of HSR and enjoys their events when and wherever they run. While no longer the owner of a racing car himself, Jack considers himself very fortunate to have driven a friends Caterham Seven at Watkins Glen and a Lotus 23B at Sebring.

"Thanks again for all the help from all of you out there - hope to see you at many of the events and meets around the country. HAPPY MOTORING!"
