1959 S1 #767 BMC power
New Zealand

Some details on my Series 1. It was produced ex works on 16 October 1959. It is one of 3 Series 1 cars in New Zealand (only one of which is road worthy). Mine had been in bits in the roof of a garage for the last 18 years and I'm on the way to getting it back together as a road/race car. I have had the chassis straightened (after it was apparent it had suffered a front end accident) and the engine and gearbox are under way. Serious work will not commence until probably early 2006. Although restoration started a few months ago it has slowed in recent times as I am also restoring a Lola Mk2 single seater that I hope to get racing by the end of this racing season. I will put a 1000cc BMC engine in the Series 1 as I want it to qualify for the FJ division in our local historic race series.

I was very careful to find a genuine Series 1. I eventually found a genuine car only 3 hours away from home! It has an almost continuous history in New Zealand and I have the papers for it going back to 1974 (when the new style registration plates were introduced here). However, other records for the car predate this.

I purchased 5 MGA wire wheels for it today so I'm accumulating bits and pieces on an ongoing basis.
