The story of Lotus
S2 Super Seven SB 1374 as I have been told by the former owners.
The car was sold in the spring/summer
of 1962 to Mr Lukats who picked it up at the factory and brought
to Sweden where it was registered with the help of two different
dealers. It was sold with 1340cc engine, fully asembled and painted
in Scottish Blue. It was delivered without indicators and tachometer.
SB 1374 was probably the first Seven to be sold to Sweden. Mr
Lukats drove the car only for a short while and after a trip
of about 250 km with his girlfriend to his parents he was forced
to sell the car. Poor chap.
The car was sold to Mr Holgersson
via a new dealer. Mr H. used the car for 1.5 years and remembers
that the car as very fast and fun to drive. When he moved abroad
he sold the car to Mr Ekström.
Mr Ekström drove the car
for some years in the sixties. He also used the car for club
racing (See the pictures from Roskilde Ring in Denmark.) He also
had the nosecone painted yellow so it would be easier to spot
in traffic though later the car was painted British Racing Green
as he wanted a English sportscar to be BRG.

Next owner was the late Mr Cederqvist
and now it gets difficult to follow the modifications of the
car. I have been in contact with next owner Mr Eliasson, but
he can't remember so much of the car as he owned several other
Sevens. He thinks SB 1374 was much lighter then the other he
had owned but I can't find any reason for this feeling. Mr Breste
was the next owner. There are some photos from his time as owner.
It's possible to spot some changes as wide live axle, S3 rear
wings, yellow paint and that the Springhall is missing. He also
told me that the car has had Alfa Twin-cam but it can't be confirmed
(When I bought the car, it had a 1600 x-flow engine.) Much has
happened to the car but no one wants tell me about his "improvements".
Next owner Mr Rehn owned the
car for eight years but still hadn't much to tell me of the car.
When next owner Mr Berndtsson got hold of the car, he started
to rebuild it. He made a nice job of the body and frame with
help from Mr Bergqvist, owner of SB 1952, but he kept the wide
stuff and x-flow. When I bought the car it looked nice.
With my intention to get as close
as possible to the original this was made by removing and selling
wide things, adding narrow and light things. Some of the body
and most of the frame is still the original (without bracing).
Today I am halfway there in my way of thinking. I will try to
make the car as it looked in the early sixties. Today the car
has got a braced Standard axle with 4.11 diff, I have the 4,55
in stock. It has 3,5" wheel, 145x13 Dunlop tyres and narrow
7,5" rear wings. The front wings are still the original
type. It is back to it's dark (Scottish) blue but with yellow
nose. I will keep the aeroscreens, external petrol cap and racing
mirror as this where added in early sixties (see photos.) I will
also keep the disc brakes and indicators for safety reasons.
Next project is to find an old 109E unit and rebuild it to Cosworth
specification. I think 109E was the original type of engine as
the car was built before 116E was announced from Ford. I have
now also found a Springhall steering wheel and this improves
the old feeling of the interior.
