Here is a picture of my Series One Seven.
It is supposed to be #410. I have not found a serial number on
it yet. I do know it was an old race car in England and the color
was red at that time. It has a Sunbeam Rapier lump installed
in it, which is what it had in England. The previous owner restored
it in the early eighties to series two specs. Any help proving
this is #410 would be appreciated.
The only documentation I have
is the title with 410 on it as the I.D. number and 1958 as the
year. I did see old pictures from the previous owner and oldsheet
metal with red paint. (dropped nose) The pictures were on a race
track in England. He would not give me any of it. He was at the
time going througha divorce and did not want to sell the car,
but had to. I do know he restored the chassis and upgraded it
at the time to a series two front end. Ihave been over the car
with other series one owners. They have told me it was an original
series one, but we could never find any numbers in the locations
you mentioned. I do remember he kept the same engine as it was
in England. I believe it was brought in this country by Lotus
7 & 11 out of Marblehead, Ma. They are no longer in business.
The guy who bought it and restored it with the help of 7 &
11 was Scott Woodman. It could be 7 & Elans. I have had the
car about ten years. I did hear once you can trace a car in England
with the engine number. I don't remember any reg numbers on the
photo's but seam to think it did have race numbers on it. Unfortunately
I don't remember what they were. It would be interesting to see
if someone else was claiming to have the same number. The engine
and gearbox are both Sunbeam Rapier. The engine has had a lot
of work done to it. (cam, ported head, Weber 45DCOE carbs) It
really likes to rev for a push rod motor. I do have the original
Metro rear end, but the one in thecar I believe is Bug eye.
Last I heard of Scott Woodman
he was living on a boat and then moved to northern New Hampshire.
I do have some other photos but none of the engine. I will take
some tomorrow. I bet the racer in England put the Rapier lump
in it. I'm sure it wasn't factory. I do have a picture of the
TR3 engine.
