I bought SB1580 in 1989 as a
crashed race car here in Pennsylvania. I spoke at the time with
Mike Ostrov, who helped me a lot with parts as when it was crashed
the prior owner sold off some of the parts (axles, carbs intake
etc) so I had to find, or build many parts to make the car as
I wanted it. I am in the start of its second restoration as I
blew the engine (hole in the block) about 3 years ago and a new
business needed all my time an money to keep that afloat. So
info on the car is SB 1580 Chassis number I am not sure off the
top of my head. Mike Ostrov confirmed the correct number years
ago. There is a mounting hole for the dual brake master drilled
through one of the numbers so when I told Mike he said yes what
I had was right only short one number. Anyway, here is a page
I have up from my restoration years ago: http://www.zoomhome.com/lotus7.html (it will
open in a new window. Close it to come back here1)
I made the car the way I wanted
it and not original, as I used it as a daily driver in California
when I moved there in 1990 for 3 years. (spent two weeks getting
rained on and bought a 2002 to drive after that). If you have
any history on the car, I would love to have it. Also I am in
need of a new block (1500 Cosworth) as mind has a hole in the
side.
The car was used as a SCCA race
car and was flipped in the late 80's and sat in a garage for
years until I stumbled across it. Not knowing what I was in for
I bought the "pile" that you see in my truck bed then
spent two years "fixing" it. I had nitrided axels made
for the T-10 axle, had intakes made, added a limited slip rear,
aeroquipped the car, had a fuel cell made, etc and drove the
hell out of it. I actually drove it from LA to Sears Point for
the 1992 Convention. Blew out two generators on the way up and
back and almost went insane with the wind noise, but it was a
ton of fun.
