Vintage Lotus Race Cars at Lime Rock, 2003

Lotus Mk IX

After 28 years of being hung from the rafters in the cellar, Dave Belden has gotten his MkIX back together. It ran approximately 35 miles (2 practice sessions) on Friday at Limerock Ct. The ex-Len Bastrup car was sidelined in the first session on Saturday with a ruptured oil line (burned through the firesleeve and oil line). It was repaired in time for the second session on Saturday. This car is still very original with its original body work.

It was great to see out on the track again after all these years and Dave deserves a big hand for bringing the MkIX back after all these years.

The track was pretty wet and there were a fair number of retirements in all of the race groups due to off-track excursions. This 18 managed to slide off on the back part of the track and went into the tirewall, suffering minor damage to front suspension and nosecone.
