Notes by John Watson, Lotus Seven
registrar...
Chassis # and frame # look to
be correct. However the date of the car is way out. It's what
is known as a Lotus 2 1/2 (Two and a Half) and would be dated
in the middle of 1968. Usually there is a good reason why a car
is made out to be older than it is. Tax or emissions or the like
depending on the state?
Available from early 1968 - Known
as the Series 2 1/2 - 1600cc. FORD 2255E overhead valve engine
with crossflow head and Weber 32DFM twin-choke progressive down-draught
carburettor in standard tune developing 84bhp at 5,500rpm. Compression
ratio 9.0:1. 116E gearbox and GT remote. 'Live' rear axle from
Standard 10. 4.5:1 final drive to most early cars. 4.11:1 later.
Or if you like, Series Two rear
axle with Series Three engine.
John, Wanted to let you know
that you've got a great website! I have recently acquired SB2303.
You are spot on about the date...Keep up the good work with
the site. Cheers. Rob
