Chuck Wade's Lotus Seven
SB1084
USA

I am relatively new to the list and have had a lot of fun reading all the different situations people find themselves into. I purchased SB 1084 as a really hurting basket case about seven and a half years ago. Working with Tom Beauchamp, we rebuilt (mostly replaced) the frame and aluminum skins. I still need to fabricate the suspension and an unknown vast amount of "other stuff" to finish the car. I currently have no pictures of my chassis.

The stock steel wheels were too rusty to salvage but my car came with a set of 5 X 13 Minilite mag wheels (the real thing) and also a salisbury LSD. I have two or three sets of front suspension pieces but one set along with the control arms were chromed (can you say hydrogen embrittlement). What I am looking for is a set of 5 (1/2?) inch headlight buckets to install 26 R headlights. They are nicer looking and I will always have the original 7 inchers if total originality is required. Tom had done this to his 7 and it is cool. I have a set of KC Highlites buckets but I will need to make a bezel and a base for the bulb to rest on for them to work. The good thing about them is the wiring goes through the mount bolt.

I mentioned originality earlier, I have modified my car. The lower frame section is built to accommodate the trans mount, the side panels on each side of the engine are removable with Dzus fasteners as are the front wings all without removing the front suspension. The rear body skin is also removeable. Another change is made to the starter. I was able to make the foot box larger with this change. I did these mods because in the '60's and early '70's I raced MG Midgets. There was a lot of oil from my attempts to build race engines at that time and if I haven't gotten any better at race engines, I wanted to be able to clean the car. A person would have to look closely to notice these mods.
